Instructions for use

Apply to clay just after leather hard stage as it begins to change colour. Use wide, flat, soft slip brush for flowing coats. Terra Sigillata Slip has high clay content and low water content and gets taken up very easily.

Build up successive coats as each one dries. The fewer coats the more definition you will retain. For a more marble like finish apply 3 to 5 coats cross hatching with a brush.

When dry you can polish with your finger, or a smooth cloth, to bring out the shine.

IMPORTANT.
Fire to cone 06 ... 960 degrees centigrade. Do not fire higher or the slip will become semi vitreous. It will not be suitable for smoke firing as the slip will not take up the smoke.

After firing polish with wet and dry paper:- start with grade 800 for a couple of minutes (best done under running water or in a large bowl of clean water).

Follow on with 1000 grade for a couple of minutes and finally polish with 1200 grade still using clean water.

Wet and dry paper can be obtained from quality iron mongers. 3 sheets, one of each grade, are included with your purchase.
